the quest
Was watching the news today, which is of late, a rarity. No, not the news dumbo!
Three dead in Kashmir, many more injured. Bloody faces, mourning faces, anxious faces, I could not face it anymore, so I left the room, and a speech by a friend came to mind about lopsided patriotism.
Her point was that we glance over the plight of our soldiers and country men, and discuss the plight of our cricket stars with great enthusiasm and "patriotism". I did agree with her, and I still do (no, I don't detest cricket any less now), but I think the reason for this is quite fundamental.
People want to fight, and win and revel is success, and taunt... But only the vile, want to see the opponent die. Really, all we want is a "good game". The scandinavians sure figured that out right with their interpretation of Valhalla. Richard Bach seemed to have got that right as well, in his 'One'. But somewhere between the two, the 'game' went from hunting animals, to conquering lands, to conquering people which finally has culminated in a 'blood sport'
Ever wondered why people are more worried about an arms 'race' than a country trying to develop weapons? It is the 'race' that is scary or dangerous. The race, the game.
Very many people seem to have got this but a few enlightened souls whose voice rage louder than mine left behind double sided swords by saying "love thy neighbour..." and also "an eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth". Now, when the wise ones, had a problem in staying consistent and true to their words, what can we expect of muddled up mortals!???
Au revoir.
